Should Christians Pray About Political Issues?

Because the 714 Prayer Report is a call for Christians to pray, we are taking a few weeks to refresh our Scriptural understanding of prayer. This week we want to address this question: should we concern ourselves with praying about political issues?

Even though some people might dispute it, and others might devalue the importance of prayer, the simple, Biblical answer to our question is that we should pray about everything in our lives. The Scripture tells us to “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7). There is certainly a lot we could let ourselves be anxious about during this election year, but God tells us in those two verses not to worry about anything but pray about everything. “Everything” would certainly include the state of our nation and the outcome of a crucial election like the one we are facing this year.

We are told in Hebrews that we have the ascended Lord Jesus as our High Priest and that we can “come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (4:15-16). Without question, this is a “time of need” for our nation, and for the people of our nation. Is there any doubt we need to be consistently coming before the “throne of grace” seeking God’s mercy and grace? We are also told in James 4:2, “you do not have because you do not ask.” And in James 5:16- 18 we are reminded that “the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced fruit.” Elijah prayed because wicked King Ahab provoked God in unimaginable ways (1 Kings 16:30- 33). There was wickedness in the land. The ruler was promoting evil and wickedness. The nation, under terrible leadership, had departed from God. (Sound familiar?) So, Elijah intervened in prayer. Moses was also a man who many times held sway with God in prayer for his nation (example: Numbers 11:2).

The major point in all of this is that prayer is powerful and prayer changes things, because God has designed it that way. The all-powerful God and Creator of the universe invites us to come to Him and express our complete dependence on Him in prayer. And when we take Him up on that offer, God can bring about more change in one second than a thousand people working with all their might can affect in a lifetime. When we do what God tells us to do in 2 Chronicles 7:14: humble ourselves, pray and seek His face, and turn from our own wicked ways, then He will hear our cry as His children, forgive our sin and heal our land. Without Him we can do nothing (John 15:5). With Him, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). When we are dependent on God, and express that dependence in prayer, He will often intervene in ways we don’t even know about, and ultimately, He will get the glory in what is accomplished. If we truly want to glorify God, prayer must be at the center of everything in our lives!

Next week in our final installment in this series: What does prayer change? Who does it change? 1

ICYMI: Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Endorsed President Trump

Last week, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., suspended his campaign and endorsed Donald Trump. This surprised many people because Kennedy is a former Democrat, even though he was running as an Independent. Ideologically, however, Kennedy is closer to Trump than he is to his old party and its current nominees for President and Vice President, Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. Kennedy is an old school Democrat. He is liberal, yes, but he’s not a Leftist or Marxist like Harris and Walz. There are some major differences between RFK, Jr., and Kamala Harris. For example, if he were ever to become President, we wouldn’t have to worry about an open border, or senseless wars driven by the greed of the military industrial complex, or about the weaponization of the justice system against Christians and conservatives, or about the infringement of our freedoms of speech and religion. There is a major difference between old school liberals who love their country and Marxists who desire to see this country destroyed. In his announcement suspending his campaign and endorsing Trump, RFK, Jr., issued a scathing indictment of his old party. At the Trump rally later that night, the love Kennedy has for his country was on full display, and, in particular, the passion he has for the health of America’s children. He comes across as a sincere person who wants to do good for the country and its people, and it appears he will be an asset to the Trump campaign, and, if Trump is re-elected, his administration.[1]

The Marks of Marxism (Part 1 – An Introduction)

Why the emphasis on Marxism all of a sudden? Why are we suddenly hearing that word so often? Answer: because we may be about to slip over the edge and elect someone as our President who would be within striking distance of completing a Marxist cultural revolution that has been taking place in America for about a century now. That revolution is on the brink of ultimate success. In the introduction to his book, America’s Cultural Revolution: How the Radical Left Conquered Everything, Christopher F. Rufo explained how we got here. “Their strategy was ingenious: the capture of America’s institutions was so gradual and bureaucratic, it largely escaped the notice of America’s public, until it burst into consciousness following the death of George Floyd. Today, America’s cultural revolution has reached the endgame.”[2]

In the coming weeks, look for a multi-part series on “The Marks of Marxism” here in the 714 Prayer Report. One thing is universally true about the implementation of Marxism in a society or culture, the existing culture must be destroyed first. It always requires totalitarian control to complete that transition. To learn more about Marxism, sign up for the free Hillsdale College online course, Marxism, Socialism, and Communism and watch all 6 of the videos. It will move you to prayer!

[1] The top pollsters are saying Kennedy will only add at most 2 percentage points to Trump’s poll numbers, but in some of

the razor thin swing states, that could be the deciding factor, and as the campaign progresses Kennedy may persuade some independents to switch their votes from Harris to Trump – something Trump might not have been able to do on his own. [2] p. 4.
