What We Need To Pray About – September 20, 2024

The Marks of Marxism (Part 4 of 5) This 5-part series on the Marks of Marxism is intended to shore up an area of ignorance for many, if not most, Christians. In an appearance on the Ingraham Angle on the Fox News Channel on May 7, 2024, Dennis Prager profoundly commented: “Most Americans don’t want to acknowledge the threat to Western civilization the left poses.” Prager is dead center on the bullseye. As Christians, we busy ourselves with all the things we should be doing: loving our family and friends, going to work, paying our bills, caring for neighbors and our community, reading our Bibles, praying, going to church on Sunday. We don’t invest much of our time in understanding political movements and trends, at least until we see something as a threat to our values or way of life. But that is a fault we Christians have, not a

The Marks of Marxism (Part 3 of 5) Marxism is the social, economic, and political philosophy of Karl Marx. It has proven to be the most divisive, dangerous, and deadly philosophy ever hatched from the mind of a single human. Never has the philosophy of one man been more destructive to nations, societies, cultures, and individual lives. In the last several years, the truth has bubbled to the surface that a Marxist cultural revolution has been taking place in our country for about the last hundred years. Now, we have one of the major party Presidential candidates who clearly advocates the ideals of Marxism. She doesn’t dare say, “Yes! I’m a Marxist and I want to be your first fully Marxist President,” but her stated positions on many issues, though often rendered in veiled terms, reveal exactly where she is on the political spectrum. As Christians, we need to understand

Additional Benefits of Prayer (Final installment of 3-part series.)In part one of this series on prayer, we saw that prayer is how we enter the Christian life, and, in many ways, it defines our Christian lives. We are people in touch with God. We hear from Him in His Word, and we call on Him in our prayers. Christian prayer is part of what sets us apart as God’s people. Last week, in part two, we saw that prayer really does change things. Prayer is important in God’s design of how He accomplishes His purposes and plans. It’s a mystery to us, and we aren’t able to fully understand it, but when God is ready to work in some way, He moves His people to pray about that very thing, and the attending prayers of His people are somehow part of His plan. “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous

Should Christians Pray About Political Issues? Because the 714 Prayer Report is a call for Christians to pray, we are taking a few weeks to refresh our Scriptural understanding of prayer. This week we want to address this question: should we concern ourselves with praying about political issues? Even though some people might dispute it, and others might devalue the importance of prayer, the simple, Biblical answer to our question is that we should pray about everything in our lives. The Scripture tells us to “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7). There is certainly a lot we could let ourselves be anxious about during this election year, but God tells us in those two verses

Prayer: It’s What We Christians Do!          The core purpose of the 714 Prayer Report is to stir Christians in the United States to pray about the crucial issues facing our nation. So, for the next few weeks we will begin each Report with a brief refresher on prayer. As we said last week, if there has ever been a time when God’s people in this country need to get right with Him and seek His mercy for our nation, this is it! One of the defining marks of genuine believers and followers of Jesus Christ is that we pray. We don’t just think about it or just talk about it. We don’t just do it on those rare occasions when the pastor is over for Sunday dinner, or on some other special social occasion when people are gathered around and it would look bad if we didn’t pray. No. It

FIRST EDITION Welcome to the first edition of the 714 Prayer Report. Above all else this Report will be a call to prayer. Its publication each Friday will provide Christian citizens of the United States with a reminder to pray for their country. It will also provide news articles and news commentaries that will serve as reminders of what we all need to be praying about. A Biblical Foundation The name of the Report is taken from that great verse in 2 Chronicles 7:14 in which God invites His people to get right with Him and earnestly seek Him in prayer. If there has ever been a time when American Christians need to respond to that invitation, this is it! We live in a deeply divided nation. That division is almost right down the middle. The two sides can be described as those on one side who want our nation
