Sixty-one Years Ago Today
Those who are old enough to remember can tell you where they were when they heard the news. The mournful report was read to the nation by Walter Cronkite with a tear in his eye and a lump in his throat. CBS interrupted its afternoon programming, a soap opera, with a news bulletin from Dallas.
I was only four years old at the time, so I wasn’t old enough to understand what had happened. But I do remember my mother crying that day, and I could sense in my young heart the heaviness of the days that ensued. I remember watching his funeral on our old black and white TV. I remember the horse drawn carriage carrying the flag-draped coffin. And I remember the riderless horse. I later learned that the horse’s name was Blackjack. I especially remember the lighting of the eternal flame at his graveside in Arlington National Cemetery. From that day, I wanted to go there. I finally had the opportunity forty-two year later, in 2005, when I toured the cemetery with my wife and two young sons. It didn’t seem real that I was standing where I had seen that hazy image of his widow, Jackie, and brother, Robert, lighting that flame so many years before. The view from that location is breathtaking.
John F. Kennedy is remembered for many things. He was a World War II hero on PT109. He was a best-selling author with two well-known titles (at the time), Why England Slept and Profiles In Courage. For the latter, he was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 1957. He is known, of course, as the 35th President of the United States. The high point of his brief time in office came in October of 1962 when he skillfully guided the United States and the world through the Cuban Missile Crisis. For thirteen agonizing days, the world was on the brink of nuclear annihilation. Kennedy had to become a profile in courage himself and stand against what would have been fatal advice from several of his top military advisors. There was no margin for error or miscalculation. There would have been no mulligans if he had gotten it wrong. In the end, he and Khruschev found a way to diffuse the potential apocalypse of the “Missiles of October”.
And, of course, John F. Kennedy is perhaps most remembered for his assassination that took place as his motorcade passed through Dealy Plaza there in Dallas that fateful November day. The homemade film taken by a man named Abraham Zapruder captured the moment. (Warning: the Zapruder film is very graphic.) It is an event about which the American people still don’t know the full truth, because the CIA has yet to declassify and release the remaining documents in the case. There’s something in those remaining documents that has prompted Presidents to recoil from declassifying them.
Parallels to the Present
Here we are sixty-one years later, and it is incredible how many parallels we can see between the days of John F. Kennedy in the middle of last century and what is currently playing out in our nation today.
We Are On the Verge of WWIII and a Nuclear Catastrophe
The most important thing taking place on the planet at this moment doesn’t seem to be getting the right proportion of network airtime. On his way out the door, Joe Biden seems hell-bent on leaving the world one final gift: World War III and possible nuclear holocaust! Hello! Are you awake now? He has given Ukraine permission to use American made long range missiles for deep strikes inside Russia. Those missiles can only be operated by American or NATO soldiers. Putin made it clear he would consider the use of those missiles a declaration of war by the United States and NATO and has stated it may cross a threshold compelling him to respond with nuclear weapons. On Wednesday, two days ago, Ukraine struck targets in Russia using those missiles. Yesterday, Russia retaliated with a new type of experimental missile that cannot be stopped by any known defense system. He has threatened to use these new missiles against U.S. military targets if Ukraine’s long-range missile attacks continue. Just like the missiles we objected to in Cuba in 1962, Putin objects to a NATO member with missiles next door to his country. All he wants is a non-NATO Ukraine as a buffer zone between Russia and the current NATO nations. The war would never have started if we had agreed to that reasonable request. Instead, we now have the “Missiles of November”, but there is no John Kennedy in the oval office!
The Deep State Is More Out of Control Than Ever
Many analysts now believe the CIA played an active role in the assassination of President Kennedy. They had an entire covert operation with the espionage expertise to take out anyone who crossed them. Kennedy had crossed them in the Bay of Pigs catastrophe. It is reasonable to assume the CIA was either directly or indirectly involved in what took place in Dallas on November 22, 1963. President Trump has declared war on the current deep state here in the U.S., including the DOJ, FBI, and CIA. He plans to declassify the remaining Kennedy documents, which leads us to our last parallel between then and now.
The Threat of Assassination Looms for President Trump
Just because President Trump survived the campaign, doesn’t mean his life is no longer in danger. We need to continue to pray for his safety and the safety of his family and team. He is a threat to the military industrial complex that President Eisenhower warned us about, a threat to the deep state here in our country, and a threat to the regimes in many other countries around the world. They all want him dead. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., the son of the man who helped Jackie light that flame on November 25, 1963, plans to go after the corrupt corporations that currently have control of the government agencies that are supposed to be regulating them. They want him dead. It is a dangerous time we are passing through!
